Dr. Joshua B. Benoit, a 2001 graduate of Fairfield High School, was recently named by the Ohio Academy of Science as a Believe in Ohio STEM Exemplar. He is one of 81 Ohioans recognized who work in STEM-related fields and considered role models that encourage students to pursue STEM careers. Honorees are graduates of Ohio high schools, have attended colleges or universities in Ohio or elsewhere, and are now employed or retired in a STEM field in Ohio. Dr. Benoit, who earned a B.S. in Biochemistry from Wittenberg University in 2005, went on to earn his Ph.D. in entomology and physiology at The Ohio State University in 2009. He was a post-doctoral fellow at Yale University’s School of Public Health in the Division of Epidemology of Microbial Diseases. Prior to that he worked as a visiting scientist at the Institute of Zoology in Bratislava, Slovak Republic; as a graduate research fellow and assistant at The Ohio State; and as a National Science Foundation field researcher at Palmer Station, Antarctica. Dr. Benoit is currently Assistant Professor in the Biological Sciences Department in the McMicken College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Cincinnati.
